Then and Now

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office recently put a new transport vehicle into service.
Coroner Dr. David Moylan said the vehicle was purchased at a cost of under $5,000 from money available to the office through Act 122 and Pennsylvania State Coroners Association.
The 1978 vehicle was purchased from the Aristes Fire Company and had the chassis and engine refurbished in 1997.
Moylan said the vehicle had brake and other work completed by Schuylkill Transportation System mechanics to ensure its safety and it was re-lettered to reflect the coroner’s office instead of the fire company.
Moylan said the ambulance once served the Borough of Centralia, a town now left virtually vacant due to an underground mine fire.
